Peristaltic Pumps (Hose Pumps)

A peristaltic pump is a hose pump that uses rotating shoes to compress a reinforced rubber hose. This creates continuous suction at the inlet and pushes product to the outlet. The casing contains a food-grade lubricant to reduce friction and support performance. The pumped product is in contact only with the inside of the rubber hose, allowing a wide range of reactive products to be handled.

Application

Pump for transfer, emptying or taking samples of viscous and/or abrasive products. Also suitable for shear-sensitive media and liquids containing fragile ingredients. Examples: fruit concentrate, tomato sauce, mashed potatoes, egg white & yolk, natural flavouring, cream, milk and yogurt, water & salt mixtures, fats, gelatine, etc.

How it works

  • Two shoes (180° apart) compress the reinforced rubber hose successively.
  • Compression creates suction at inlet and positive displacement towards outlet.
  • Flow is in direct linear relation to pump speed (wide capacity range with one pump).
  • Product only contacts the hose interior—supporting reactive or sensitive media handling.

Features & Benefits

  • Seal-less design; withstands dry running
  • Self-priming up to 9 m
  • Outlet pressure up to 15 bar (8 bar for PT20)
  • Handles particles up to 20% of hose inner diameter
  • Multiple gearbox options for desired speed/capacity
  • Easy maintenance with limited wear parts
  • Reversible flow
  • Flexible installation: hose can be positioned in four ways
  • Robust, simple design; low noise level
  • PTC thermistors protect motor from high temperatures when frequency controlled

FAQ

Quick answers about hose pump operation and selection.

What makes a peristaltic pump suitable for abrasive or reactive products?

The pumped product contacts only the inside of the hose, while the casing uses food-grade lubricant to reduce friction. This supports a broad range of media including reactive products.

Can a peristaltic pump run dry?

Peristaltic pumps are commonly selected for their ability to withstand dry running and their seal-less design. Always verify limits for your specific duty.

How do I choose between Tri-Clamp, SMS, and DIN flange connections?

Choose the connection standard that matches your plant piping and hygienic requirements. If unsure, share line standards and we’ll recommend the matching variant.
